Julio's is a restaurant in Edmonton that has become a small chain. They've now come to Calgary.
The first difference was they took reservations, and that actually hurt the experience somewhat. In Edmonton, they don't take reservations, and as a result, you never have to wait long to get a table. On our visit, we waited over half an hour for a table, and the whole time, there were several empty tables with 'Reserved' signs sitting on them. One such table sat empty the entire time we were at the restaurant.
The service and the quality of food was the consistently high quality I have come to expect from Julio's Barrio. The food portions are very large and very tasty. And they still make the best Margaritas.
There were some glitches in the waitress' knowledge of the menu, and the kitchen seemed to be a little confused about who ordered what and where each dish was supposed to go. It wasn't a big deal, and they were very gracious about it all. I just chalked it up to the growing pains of a brand new restaurant with brand new staff, that was very, very busy.
Overall, it was a great experience, and my biggest complaint was the silly reservation system that seemed to do more harm than good.
