A lot of the white stuff has fallen over the past week, especially in Calgary where monthly averages for February are already double! By 5PM yesterday, there were more than 200 accidents on Calgary roads. Interestingly, in such a booming city, Calgary has much less snow removal cash in the city budget, as well as embarrasingly low numbers of graters, sanders and contract workers compared to Edmonton.

The roads were SO bad in Calgary last night! Interestingly enough, during my travels which ended up taking me well over an hour to get from one side of town to the other- I did not see one single snow removal truck! No wonder there were so many accidents! The snow this month is unusual for sure- totally getting my exercise shovelling new snow nearly every day lately!

THE ROADS WERE REALLY BAD IN COW TOWN LAST NIGHT... I MUST SAY, HAVING LIVED IN BOTH EDMONTON AND CALGARY, EDMONTON'S PLOWING SCHEDULE IS WAY BETTER! IN CALGARY THEY NEVER EVER TOUCH ANY OF THE SIDE STREETS, NOT EVEN THE MAIN ONES LEADING INTO RESIDENTIAL AREAS. AT LEAST IT SEEMS LIKE THEY DON'T. 200 ACCIDENTS BY 5? THAT'S INSANE. WHERE ARE ALL OF OUR TAX DOLLARS GOING IF THEY CAN'T EVEN KEEP UP WITH ONE WEEK'S WORTH OF SNOW??? I'D RATHER JUST STAY IN THAN DEAL WITH THAT MESS.

I am not sure that is the case anymore here in Edmonton, with radio stations reporting over 300 calls a day into the city offices regarding streets needing plowing. A day!

I say balance the frustration with the love of the best ski seasons in decades on the mountains!  Snow surfs up!

Yeah there has been alot of snow this year, but we've had the same complaint every year in Edmonton, but no one wants to pay higher taxes to pay for the extra snow clearing.  The other problem is the lack of labour force to drive the snow plows through the streets.  Its really frustrating somedays when you get stuck in some weird area of town.

Today it took me an hour and a half to get home from work!!! INSANITY. Not even an accident. It's good people are being cautious and slowing down- but really, plow the roads so traffic doesn't have to get so snarled up!!!

And what a complete mess is it going to be when all of this melts! A chinook is approaching... can you hear the car wash owners grinning

Its melting...melting!  Finally!  Heed..do not go out there without winsheild washer fluid.

YAY IT IS MELTING! ALTHOUGH- TOTAL MESS ON THE ROADS! I totally just about ran out of windshield washer fluid- this will make it my second jug of it in less than two weeks!
